Listen Up! Improve Listening Skills for Better Learning and Relationships
This is a 120 minute (2.0 units) workshop designed to increase the participants’ awareness, knowledge base and clinical applications about various aspects of listening skills and how they impact communication, executive function, academic performance and behavior. Research has estimated that 20% or more of the population have attention deficit disorder with 70% of those having a co-morbid etiology of auditory/language processing deficits. This information allows the participant to gain skills useful in assessing current client performance relative to their area of treatment, identify the area/s of listening processing weakness, devise a clinical and home treatment plan with effective goals unique to each client, and make predictions for outcomes/prognosis. The participant will garner a bank of treatment goals, forms and methods within their scope of expertise. It is at an intermediate to advanced level of speech therapy information with hands-on applications. This presentation gives specific details regarding what is auditory processing and how deficits in function create hindrances to academic performance and behavioral outcomes. The presentation is designed for professionals treating individuals who have language processing disorders, regardless of their etiology.
